Is It Safe To See The Dentist During COVID-19?

As dental offices including St. Clair Tooth Co. reopen throughout Michigan, you may not be sure if it’s safe for you and your family to get the preventive and routine dental care you need during the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic. Rest assured, Dr. Carly Cassleman is doing everything she can to provide patients with a safe, comfortable dental experience. We’re following all of the recommendations and precautions from agencies like the CDC, OSHA, and the ADA. Read on to see a few steps that we’re taking to ensure you have a safe, convenient dental visit in St. Clair Shores.

Pre-Appointment Questionnaire & Online Paperwork

We will contact you before your appointment with a simple questionnaire with questions asking about your recent travel habits, and whether you’ve been in contact with anyone who has developed COVID-19, as well as a few questions about recent symptoms (elevated temperature, dry cough, shortness of breath) that you may have experienced that could mean you’re sick. We may ask you to reschedule your appointment, depending on your answers to these questions.

In addition, we ask that you complete your pre-visit paperwork online to minimize the time you have to spend in our lobby, and ensure your visit goes smoothly. Forgot about it? Don’t worry. You can still fill it out in-person.

Staff & Patient Temperature Checks

We check the temperature of everyone who enters our St. Clair Shores office using a touchless infrared thermometer. Both staff members and patients who have a higher-than-normal temperature may be asked to go home. Patients can reschedule their appointments for a later date, and have their temperature re-checked at that time.

Social Distancing & Car Check-Ins At Our Office

You don’t have to come into our office to check in! Just let us know when you get to St. Clair Tooth Co., and wait in your car. We’ll contact you when your room is ready, and bring you directly to the back of our office, so that you don’t have to spend time in the waiting area.

In addition, we’re taking steps to reduce the number of people in our office at any given time to limit chance of exposure to COVID-19. We ask that you do not bring any guests with you to your appointment unless you need assistance getting in and out of our office.

PPE For All Staff

We’ve always worn PPE like gloves, eyeglasses, and surgical masks, but now our dental team members are taking additional precautions and wearing N95 masks, face shields, surgical gowns, and even shoe and head protection, depending on the type of procedure you need.

Our front-office staff will also be wearing masks. We request that you also wear a face covering to your appointment, if possible. Face masks have been shown to be one of the most effective ways of reducing the risk of COVID-19 transmission.

Enhanced Cleaning & Disinfection Of Common Areas

We are taking steps to clean countertops, bathrooms, doorknobs, and other frequently-touched surfaces with an EPA-registered, medical grade disinfectant. By frequently sanitizing these surfaces and maintaining proper hand hygiene, our staff can minimize the risk of the transmission of all infectious diseases, including COVID-19.
